Background Information – This essence was prepared during the "night" and early morning hours of June 21 and 22, as the midnight sun danced along the peaks of the Brooks Range in the northern interior of Alaska.
The area where this essence was prepared lies thirty-five miles north of the Arctic Circle, where there is constant daylight from April to late August. On the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, the sun barely dips below the tips of the mountain peaks, never fully disappearing from sight.
This essence was prepared by placing a bowl of water on the bank of the Koyukuk River in full view of the sun as it completed its decent from the northwest and began to rise again towards the northeast, an event lasting approximately four hours.
