The Law of Hierarchy

The eldest comes before the youngest. According to this law, family relationships must observe and follow the hierarchical order. The elders come first, so they must take precedence.

In this understanding of hierarchy, parents come first and are take precedence over their children. When children feel or position themselves as more senior than their parents and exercise some kind of authority over them, this principle is broken and an imbalance is created in the family system.

It is important to emphasise that these imbalances are created by individuals and usually unconsciously. Often there is a good intention to help or resolve a situation, and due to a lack of knowledge of these laws, attitudes arise that reverse the hierarchical order.
